The Interview from the Trinity Gazette on September 2008
Aaron Holmes and Frederick Steven Troesch III (1/2 of Kadesh)
Ute: How long have you been coming to Trinity?
Aaron: Not that long, I only have been here three times that is when we were playing here. I go to "NorthPointe" in Umatilla.
Stephen: All my life, for twenty-one years plus the nine-month I was in my mother's womb.
Ute: What led to ‘Kadesh'?
Aaron: A lot of stuff, there was a need for a worship band in our Youth Group and soon I discovered the passion and calling for this band to be something.
Stephen: For the high school and Middle school, but it was not called ‘Kadesh'.
Ute: Who all is in the group?
Stephen: Frank, Ryan, Myself, Aaron
Aaron: We did not come up with the name ‘Kadesh' until we spoke with Michael, our youth pastor at the time. We were playing at an event in Northern Florida; and we needed a name, Michael helped us come up with the name. We were called the 6:33 band at the time.
Ute: When did you start the band?
Aaron: About 2 years ago
Stephen: Kadesh as a whole for about 2 years now. Ryan started to play with us in the middle of 2007. ‘Kadesh' is part of God's creations.
Ute: What inspires the music you play?
Aaron: Any music that shows God's Love and connects people.
Stephen: I can take heart in what we sing. It is personal things we put into the music and people can related to that. They can see the love of Jesus pumping through the music
Ute: What personal experiences led you to start playing?
Aaron: I've love music my whole life fist of all, but I first tried the guitar when I went on a mission trip to Peru. That was the first time I picked up an acoustic guitar, started to play and sing with it, and noticed that I have the ability to do it. It is like a little plant. You water it and it grows, and grows, and grows.
Stephen: I believe that all talent, Christian or non-Christian comes from God; it is up to you what you will do with it.
Ute: I know that we were praying for you a couple of years ago, how did God use this to his best for you?
I will not go into anything deep, but I thing it is important to show how God made the best out of a bad situation.
Stephen: I was in a deep pit, and out of doubt not feeling God's love, came the opportunity that He, God, gave me by showing me his love, to let me play in this band. I received a phone call from Corey and he said to me, "Would you play the drums for us? You are the only one we know who is a Christian. Will you come play for us?" That was the beginning to a new start.
Ute: Where do you see ‘Kadesh' going?
Stephen: To Heaven!
Aaron: Where ever God wants us to go.
Ute: So you see yourself playing at one of the Z88.3 concerts?
Stephen: Yes! We have God's power and talent behind us.
Aaron: If that is where God wants us to go, ABSOLUTELY!!
Ute: What about DC/LA next summer?
Stephen: If we go to DC/LA, will you go?
Aaron: Sure
Ute: Where are you playing next locally?
Stephen: OASIS college ministry at NorthPointe, in Umatilla this Sunday. We lead worship there every Sunday night.
Ute: When did you accept Christ?
Aaron: When I as six or seven.
Ute: Did it stick?
Aaron: It did, but it wasn't until I was about 12 or 13 when I really had a full understanding of God and his love and mercy.
Steven: When I was 3-5, I was with my Mother in Mt Dora Bible School. I have recommitted my life to him a couple of times. The last time was when I was in Middle school.
Ute: What inspiration do you have for any Middle School or High Schoolers?
Aaron: Obedience, do not ignore the small stuff that you think might be God tugging on you. Love is the key.
Stephen: Obedience and do what you is right. Do not question it and do everything in love.
Ute: What are your favored scriptures?
Aaron: Acts 4:29 "Lord, Help us, your servants, to speak your word without fear."
Stephen: Romans 8: 29- 39
29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.
Nothing Can Separate Us from God's Love
31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one-for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one-for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep." [a]) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
As I was sitting here this morning and enjoying my morning devotions, I ran across the word Kadesh in the Bible. I found the reference in Numbers 13. Kadesh is the only oasis in the Desert of Paran, from which Moses sent out a member of each tribe of Israel to spy on the land of Canaan. My question is: was the band named after the oasis of Kadesh because the need for teenagers was there to hear music they could understand in the big desert of adult music? Something to ponder or to ask Aaron and Stephen when you see them.
I just received a response back form Aaron on the word Kadesh and here is what he had to say:
Aaron: "Hi, Actually I have read that passage and it is a great one but we actually came up with the name Kadesh from the Hebrew language and the word Kadesh means - caused to be holy."
